About the Author Steve grew up in southern California, spending many years exploring the vast Death Valley territory and the greater Mojave Desert.

He has driven most of the dirt roads in Death Valley National Park, as well as those surrounding the park.

Steve has spent up to six days at a time on short expeditions into the region, most notably in his Jeep CJ-5.

He has climbed Telescope Peak, and hiked many miles throughout the park.

From his first visit with his family in 1955, up to his ill-fated 2015 traverse on a human-powered recumbent tricycle, Steve has developed an intimate relationship with this land, and is well-suited to assist others in their regional explorations.
