Bunnell (1824-1903) was an American physician, author and explorer who is most well-known for his involvement with the Mariposa Battalion, the first non-Indians to enter Yosemite Valley, and he is credited as the person who named Yosemite.
This work first published in 1880 is his account of his explorations and the actions of the Battalion.
