Peter suggests that it is the Holy Spirit that should be the guide that both the mentor and his prot g should follow.
It's the mentor's job to help discern the Spirit's leading and follow.
He has the attitude before his mentoree of Follow me, follow Christ.
There is a chapter entitled Being Led by the Holy Spirit in Mentoring, which gives insight into the spirituality of mentoring.

It's truly inspirational.
Peter's letter to his father to his father long after his death (see appendix B) is poignant and sets the backdrop for Peter's journey to becoming a mentor of mentors.
Peter has encouraged many men to write letters to their fathers which have born much fruit.
Many men were not fathered well and need a mentor to come alongside to encourage them in their journey through life.
