The work is a setting of an anonymous poem depicting butterflies in flight.
It may be sung by any voice type.
The singer performs unaccompanied, and him- or herself plays two shakers or rattles throughout the piece.
A rhythmic pulse drives a combination of sung, spoken, whispered, and shouted sounds, alternating lines of the poem with Native American vocables.
A program note, translation of the text, and full instructions to the performer are included.
