This book tells of my personal quest to learn Alpine climbing, in the years 1962 to 1965, in this wild and trackless land.
It also augments the experiences of my previous book, An Alaskan Apprenticeship, in those formative years.
A hard land? Yes, indeed; sixty years ago, if you pushed the envelope too far, you had no choice but to rescue yourself and any fellow climbers.
There were no easy communication devices--you were truly on your own.
It was a very different world.
