Jane Paul was born in England and went to Australia as a small girl.
Since then she has travelled extensively throughout the world.
Her early career was as a ballet dancer in Australia and Europe.
When a serious illness ended that, she went nursing, qualifying as a registered nurse.
This in turn took her to some of the most remote areas of Australia.
It was there that she developed her interest in indigenous culture, and her admiration for the Royal Flying Doctor Servic.
