Kildahl is the youngest and only surviving child of the author.
He fell in love with the theater as a child and later enrolled in the Pasadena Playhouse School of Theater.
Awarded a masters degree in 1946 he directed for two years before coming to Purdue University as an Instructor and Director, and later as professor.
